DECOS PVC Cladding Ranges - Help, Tips and Advice......... including fitting guide !

These instructions are for the Decos PVC Cladding ranges:

Hello my name is Jamie and I run this website and look after the technical questions and queries from customers. The purpose of this page is to try and help you the customer with some general help, tips and advice when it comes to installation.

If you have come to this page first it is also a good idea to read our 'Frequently Asked Questions' page. I intend on regularly up-dating this page so please call back from time to time.

Ok, so let’s get going.........

How Many Packs ????

First of all you may need to work out how many packs you will require. Most panels are 250mm wide and will come packed in 4, so each pack will cover a width of 1 meter. With exception of the Woodlands range 333mm per panel which are packed in 3 = 999mm, almost 1 meter and the Ligno 100mm wide panels which are packed in 10, so again total width 1 meter. It's worth bearing this in mind when measuring the area to be paneled.

If you measure the width of each wall in meters and add them together this should give you the total number of packs you will require, i.e 4 meters = 4 packs. You may have to round up to the nearest meter, i.e 3.7m would be rounded up to 4 meters, so again 4 packs.

Don't worry too much about the height as these will be cut to the length of your wall height, normally 2.4m, however some older houses can be 2.7m. It is also worth remembering that some of the ranges are available in different lengths, i.e Sumatra, Woodlands&Labo which are available in 2.6, 4.5m and 6m (labo). 2.7m , 4.5m and 6.0m (sumatra) and 2.7m and 5m (woodlands)so you may be able to get 2 or sometimes 3 lengths out of one panel, especially if you are doing only half the wall height or the ceiling.

Finishing Trims ????

Which finishing trims I am going to need? I hear you ask !

Well it all depends on what you want to do or cover. But generally the finishing trim can be used to cover or cap off any exposed edges, which may be at the side, top or bottom. It would be used at the top of the panel if you are only doing half the wall height and perhaps around a door frame or against the edge of shower area.

Coving, well this one’s pretty self explanatory, this trim will clip onto the paneling. It’s a good idea to fix this trim in place first and then slip each panel into it as you go. To fix it into position it can be fixed with screws, these will then be hidden as the panels go in.

If you are doing both the walls and the ceiling, I would recommend you install the ceiling panels first (without the coving), don't worry if you leave a small gap around the edges as the coving trim will cover this up. After you have installed the ceiling panels fix the coving into position as described above, mitering each corner. You can then install the wall paneling, slipping in each panel as you go, as described above
.

Corners,

When it comes to the corners you have 4 choices of how you tackle them.

1. Use the Internal/External Corner Triml. After cutting the panel to the desired width, fix the back part of the two-part corner, install the panels and then afterwards clip the second part of the two-part corner into the first part.

The Universal corners come in both fridge or cream white, where as the Multi-Functional corners come in more colours, such as light blue, light green, light grey, beige, salmon and black

2. Slit the back of the panel using a Stanley knife (make sure not go through the front skin) and fold the panel into the corner. You will need to make the slit in the correct position and allow for walls which may be out-of-line. This is the most difficult but the most effective.

3. Cut through both front and back skins using a saw and then seal the corner using a bathroom grade silicone. We sell many different coloured silicones, which is on a different website. Click here to view www.absealants.co.uk.

External corners are more difficult to fold around, but it can be done by slitting more of the back out. So normally the universal corner trim would be used here.

4. We now have colour matched Flexi-Corner Trims which match the colour and design of the panels (not available in all designs) For more details the Flexi-Corners can be found by clicking on 'Trims and Accessories' in the browse box to the left
.

Installation Steps:

Step 1:After measuring the height of your wall, mark this on the panel to be cut. It’s a good idea to use a straight edge to draw a line with.

Step 2: After drawing your line, cut through the panel using a fine toothed saw

Step 3: Using silicone adhesive apply either blobs or a wiggly snake like bead along the length of the panel.

Step 4: Press the panel onto the wall alongside the first panel and then slide it into position. It's that simple !

Step 5: It may be necessary to get a fixing in the tongue to help make the joints tighter, which is sometimes the case when the walls are uneven. You can either fix it using screws or nails. When the next panel goes into position any fixing will be then hidden.

Step 6: It is also sometimes necessary to cut round light or power sockets. This is best done using Stanley knifes or hacksaw.

Step 7: As you approach the corner, it may not be a full panel that is required and so the panel will need to be cut or folded. We are going for cutting through both skins (see what to do with corners).

First measure the distance from the edge of the last panel to the corner and then mark this on the next panel, using a straight edge draw a line with a pencil and then cut this with your saw. Clip this into place and then use the off-cut that is left to start on the next wall and carry on as before.
