Help, Tips and Advice for Spabord
Hello my name is Jamie and I run this website.
I have just recently bought a rundown house which needed a full refurbishment throughout. This included the bathroom and shower.
Until now I have only had a 'Help, Tips and Advice' section on the Decos type of Paneling.

I have now used the Spabord type of sheets/panels myself enabling me to share with you my own experiences, these are my own thoughts and findings and should only be used to help you decide and prepare yourselves if and when you buy or install them.
Firstly I would recommend the Spabord sheets to anyone as the finish and quality is 1st class. However some preparation is needed before and during installation. These are:
1. The sheets need to be support when cutting, for this I used two workbenches with 2 scaffold boards.
2. A fine toothed handsaw (see 'Trims and Accessories' in browse bar to the left).
3. G-Clamps.
The Corner and Edge trims are optional and I never used them, instead I butted the sheets in the corner and siliconed those, using a colour matched silicone (light ivory) these can be bought from our sister website www.absealants.co.uk. To get a perfect line of silicone I used the 'Fugi Silicone Smootherner' which can be purchased either from this website or www.absealants.co.uk.
I also used the Cladseal base trim on top of the shower tray meaning there is no visible silicone. For Cladseal, click here for details.
Cutting
Like I mentioned earlier I placed the sheets on scaffolding boards which were on top on 2 workbenches. After measuring the shower enclosure I marked these out on the sheets using a pencil and a straight edge. I then held the sheets in place using 2 G-Clamps. The sheets were well supported when cutting; this is because if the piece you’re cutting off droops or hands down it pulls on the laminate which can cause it to crack, not nice !
Make sure that you measure top, middle and bottom as if your walls are like mine then they’re out of line, making the top wider than the bottom. Also the literature recommends that you measure and deduct 20mm overall, I would say more like 10mm at the most, if there too big when you dry fit them, you can always trim them down !
Next I recommend that you use plenty of adhesive, perhaps 2 tubes per sheet. I found that the more adhesive I used the better, this is because it gives you lots of suction, helping the sheets grab and hold in place.
Good Luck ! if you want to add your own thoughts about Spabord please email me at sales@decospanels.co.uk and I will upload yours to help others.
